Among larger lines sold this week, this run of 172 Santa x Brahman Certified Organic weaned steers 271kg at 6-12 months from Boulia, Northwest Queensland made 365c/kg or $990. A further 151 of their heifer sisters 247kg made 288c/kg or $710.

AUCTIONSPLUS cattle offerings slipped by three percent this week to 11,691 head.

Most lighter descriptions of steers and heifers increased in value, with lighter steer category clearances from 63pc to 85pc.

AuctionsPlus network general manager Paul Holm said results were consistent with this time of year, suggesting that young cattle, in general, had experienced stronger clearance rates.

“Anything sold with a calf on the ground has been met with reasonably good demand,” Mr Holm said.

Steers heavier than 400kg registered a larger offering of 782 head and averaged  363c/kg, with prices ranging from 339-374c.

Heifers 200-280kg registered a smaller offering of 898 head and averaged $808/head, up $105 from last week for a 62pc clearance.

Non station-mated heifers and calves registered a smaller offering of 270 head and averaged $2227/head, up $178 from last week for a 65pc clearance.

Processor/lotfeeder activity accounted for 3.76pc of the sold offering, up a little from last week’s 2.82pc.

From Springhurst, Victoria, a line of 36 Angus cows 4-9 years averaging 575kg returned $2120/head and will travel to a buyer in Molong, NSW.

A line of 28 Droughtmaster x Simmental cows four years averaging 385kg from Ben Lomond, NSW returned $1950/head and will travel to a buyer in Ashford, NSW.

A line of 70 Angus steers 14-16 months averaging 487kg from Mangoplah, NSW returned 374c/kg and will travel to a buyer in Murray bridge, South Australia.

Among the breeding female offering, PTIC cows and PTIC heifers suffered substantial price declines, falling an average of $583 a head on heifers and $240 on cows, with clearances of only 17pc and 22pc respectively. Both offerings were around 600 head each.
