Wagga sale 11 May 2026: Competition lifts for larger 4565 head offering

Yarding 4565  Change +465

The numbers lifted in response to a strong sale the previous week. A considerable number were secondary cattle, while trade and heavy export cattle remained scarce. However, there was an uptick in competition, particularly from feedlot buyers, who responded to the demand for well-bred Angus steers and heifers by offering premium prices. Recent rains have also prompted restockers to engage more actively, especially in lighter weight classes.

Trade steers and heifers were limited in availability, selling between 422- 479c/kg.  A bigger group of background buyers and feedlots were buying. Feeder steers remained mostly unchanged, with medium weights selling for 430-502c/kg. Demand for feeder heifers was particularly strong, with medium weight heifers seeing a price increase of 13c, priced between 443-492c/kg. Light weight steers, weighing between 200-280kg, gained 28c making from 415-534c/kg. The average price for the heifer portion also improved by 10c averaging at $1,086/head.

Few steers and bullocks were available, with most selling in the range of 440-470c/kg. The best younger steers sold to feedlots for prices between 528- 532c/kg. Heavy heifers were well supplied, with quality types fetching between 400-455c/kg.

Despite not all buyers being fully active, the cow market showed a noticeable increase, lifting by 10-18c/kg. Heavy cows sold for prices ranging from 355-385c while leaner cows weighing under 520 kilograms were in high demand, achieving prices from 290-366c/kg.
