Dalby sale 24 Sep 2025: Supply holds steady

The supply of cattle into Dalby remained relatively close to the previous weeks level at 6634 head. Included in the lineup were 812 cows and just under 400 bulls.

The regular panel of export buyers contain some southern operators and all were active in the market. A fair line up of feeder and restockers buyers were selective in their purchases.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock could not maintain the levels of the previous sale. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed experienced only quality related price changes. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock lost 18c to 20c/kg.  Medium and heavy weight yearling heifers to feed were firm to 10c/kg better.  Heavy grown steers and bullocks sold to a firm market. Top price for cows remained the same however average prices varied according to quality.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 590c with most sales 495c to 496c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 485c to 495c and sold to 524c/kg.  Heavy weight yearling steers to feed also sold to 524c to average from 463c to 487c/kg. The best of the light weight yearling heifers made to 460c however the largest numbers averaged from 398c to 408c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 416c to 438c with the occasional sale to 472c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 471c to average 428c/kg.

Heavy grown steers made to 440c to average 428c and the bullock portion made to 438c to average 426c/kg. Heavy grown heifers made to 435c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 349c and made to 360c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 379c and the best of the cows averaged 396c and made to 410c/kg. Heavy weight bulls followed the dearer trend of the previous sale and made to 472c/kg some returning $5,452/head.

An increased yarding in Dalby with all regular buyers attending.  All categories holding firm despite a mixed quality yarding.  Lightweight heifers and steers sold to a reduced competition resulting in a softer trend.
