Dalby sale 1 October 2025: Firm demand for heavy steers

Yarding 7544 Change +910

The trend of larger numbers into the saleyards continued on at Dalby with an increase of 910 head to 7544. Cow numbers also lifted to 1734 and the supply of bulls remained virtually unchanged at just under 400 head. Buyer representation was good with the regular local and southern operators plus an additional feeder buyer from South Australia.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock struggled under the weight of numbers however well bred lines were still in demand. Yearling steers to feed experienced quality fluctuations in price however the over 480kg lines were dearer. Buyers were selective on the light and medium weight yearling heifers to restockers and feed, however heavy weight yearling heifers to feed improved in price. Heavy grown steers and bullocks sold to firm demand. The large number of cows could not maintain the levels of the previous sale and lost 4c to 10c/kg with the plain condition lines the least affected.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to 540c with a good sample averaging from 476c to 493c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 528c and averaged from 483c to 488c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 530c to average from 473c to 476c/kg. The best of the light weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 468c with the largest numbers 416c to 420c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made 468c to average from 418c to 421c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 476c and the over 480kg lines made to 466c to average 460c/kg.

Bullocks made to 439c to average 430c/kg. Heavy grown heifers made to 436c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 345c and made to 356c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 374c and the best of the heavy weight cows made to 404c to average 387c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 463c/kg with one bull returning $5,083/head.
