What to expect at 2025 Young Beef Producers Forum

FROM financial skills to perceptions of the beef industry, this year’s Young Beef Producers Forum has a packed program to celebrate 21 years of bringing the next generation together to learn and network.

The annual event, held in Roma Queensland each year, brings together hundreds of 18 to 35-year-olds working across the beef industry.

This year delegates can look forward to hearing from industry stalwart Richard Rains on the lessons he’s learnt from a life of exporting beef.

Peta Carige is one of Australia’s leading Sports Dietitians and has worked with a number NRL teams including the Broncos, Sea Eagles, Knights and Panthers.

Marcus Oldham’s David Cornish and Nat Jeffrey will run a financial skills workshop after a carcase breakdown demonstration by Dr Peter McGilchrist, a Professor of Meat Science at the University of New England (UNE).

Southwest Qld cattle producers Carl & Judi Bain will share insights from their operation, while Beef Central will be participating in a panel discussion on perceptions of the beef industry, with leading sports nutritionist Peta Carige.

Delegates will also hear from young producers with diverse careers in the industry including Jimmy Bellingham, Bellingham Contracting, Caitlyn Barton, JBS, Harry Evans, Bush Agribusiness, Will Jones, Outback Poly Products and Teek Carmichael, Business & Rural Solutions Ltd.

The forum will also welcome the inaugural recipient of the Tim Emery Bursary, Zoe Sibley, from Melbourne who is now working for Stanbroke in Cloncurry.

“The Forum offers a unique opportunity for people of a similar age to come together, network, learn, be inspired and hear different perspectives from across the industry. I think that is what makes it so popular,” Tom Copley, Chair of the Young Beef Producers Forum committee said.

“We had a lot of feedback that it would be great to get participants thinking about beef as a business so I’m really looking forward to the financial skills workshop and I’m really looking forward to hearing from Rob McGavin, the co-founder of Cobram Estate Olives.”

This year’s Thursday Cocktail Night will again be hosted by the Roma Saleyards with the proceeds from the charity auction being donated to the Royal Flying Doctors Service.
