SEVERE Tropical Cyclone Fina developed north of the Northern Territory on 19 November, passed around 50 km north of Darwin on 22 November, and reached category 4 intensity on 23 November.
Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina brought weekly rainfall totals of 50 mm to more than 400 mm over large areas of the Northern Territory Top End.
Tropical moisture and troughs produced storms and showers along much of the east coast of Australia.
Weekly totals above 15 mm to more than 50 mm were recorded across the Cape York Peninsula, and extended well inland, from south-eastern Queensland to central Victoria.
Low pressure systems and cold fronts interacting with unstable warm air, produced thunderstorms and showers in southern Australia, including a severe storm at Port Pirie in South Australia with large hail and flash flooding.
Weekly totals of 5 to 50 mm were recorded in Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania with locally higher totals in the far south-west, and the south-eastern ranges.
The highest weekly total was 486.6 mm, at Middle Point (Northern Territory), which also included the highest daily total of 430.0 mm in the 24 hours to 9 am on 23 November.
