NEW South Wales beef processor Bindaree Beef this week celebrates 30 years of operations at the company’s Inverell facility, marking a milestone reflecting significant economic contribution and deep ties to the Northern Tablelands and New England communities.

Since 1995, the plant has contributed more than $1.25 billion in wages into local households, shops, schools and small businesses, Bindaree Beef has calculated.

Over three decades, the site has partnered with more than 5000 producers, processed more than seven million cattle, produced more than two million tonnes of beef, and typical of many beef processors operating in regional areas, has grown to become the largest employer in the region.

While Bindaree’s origins trace back more than 40 years to operations in Casino, it was in Inverell that founder JR McDonald put his vision into action, backing a regional community and building a business that locals and producers could stand behind.

Bindaree Food Group chief executive officer Andrew McDonald, son of JR, said the milestone was a tribute to the people who shaped the business.

“My father believed in backing this region and creating opportunity. That mindset still guides us,” Mr McDonald said.

“Our Inverell operation has been built by thousands of hands — and I’m proud of every team member who has worked hard, shown resilience and helped us grow.”

While Inverell represents the longest chapter in the Bindaree Food Group story, it now forms part of a broader national and international network spanning the Myola feedlot near Croppa Creek; the former Monbeef processing facility at Cooma bought from its Japanese owners in 2023; Burleigh Heads value-adding facility; plus Brisbane, Sydney and overseas offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai and London.

Mr McDonald said the anniversary is both a moment of reflection and a foundation for what comes next.

“For three decades, producers, local businesses and our communities have stood with us. This milestone belongs to them as much as to us,” he said.

To commemorate the milestone, Bindaree has released a special video featuring reflections from Andrew McDonald and team members, showcasing key achievements and stories from the past 30 years.
