Want to eat at Australia’s best steak-place? Head to Sydney where the multi-awarded Margaret has again topped the list.
On the weekend, the top 30 Australian steak eateries were listed by the same judges who also compile the annual 101 Best Steak Restaurants list.
The 2026 international listing is released in May but the just-released Australian-only list offers some familiar names. (For the record: The 2025 international list included 17 Australian restaurants – 11 of them from Harbour-town. In fact, Sydney was named Best Steak City in the World. Eat ya heart out Dallas!)
Neil Perry’s Double Bay superstar Margaret – named after his late mum – serves outliers, such as CopperTree 60-month silage-fed friesian fillet (that’ll cost you $69) as well as the dependables such as 600g dry-aged Ben’s Blackmore pasture-fed, full-blood Wagyu ribeye (a mere $320).
Next comes Lennox Hastie’s fire-fuelled Firedoor, serving Westholme Wagyu rib eye, followed by fellow-Sydneysider, the Middle Eastern cuisine-inspired Aalia in third where dry-aged Rangers Valley Wagyu rib eye MB7+ costs 260/kg.
Brisbane’s Agnes scored fourth, and Adelaie’s Jake Kellie’s Arkhé came fifth. From Melbourne, Steer Dining Room placed sixth and Neil Perry resurfaces again at seventh with Gran Torino – another Double Bay icon – and Melbourne’s elite butcher/diner Victor Churchill is eighth.
Sydney’s The International and Argentinian-themed Porteño came in at nine and ten, respectively.
