Yarding 3525 Change -2298

A combination of the forecast of some rain and harvest in progress reduced numbers at Dalby by 2,298 head down to 3,525 the smallest yarding since 2nd July 25. Cow numbers also reduced to 513 and bulls down to 212 head. Buyer representation was good and all were active in a generally dearer market.
There was a wide variation in the quality of the light weight yearling steers while top money improved the average prices experienced very little change. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to a market 16c/kg better. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock gained 12c/kg. A lift in the standard of the medium weight yearling heifers to feed improved average prices by 20c to 30c/kg. Heavy grown steers and bullocks averaged 9c to 16c/kg dearer and an excellent run of heavy grown heifers lifted by 25c/kg. All classes of cows sold to a much dearer trend of 20c to 30c/kg.
Light weight yearling steers made to 558c to average from 489c to 517c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 472c to 483c with sales to 518c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 504c with a good sample averaging 471c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock averaged 391c and made to 424c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 421c to 429c with the occasional sale to 460c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 416c with sales to 456c/kg.
Heavy grown steers made to 440c and bullocks made to 450c to average 433c/kg. Heavy grown heifers averaged 435c and made to 448c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 358c and made to 364c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 377c the best of the cows made to 418c to average 402c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 450c/kg to return $5,130/head.

Widespread rain across the region contributed to a reduced yarding at Dalby today, with the sale consisting of mostly heavy prime cattle for the processors. Heavy cows were 20-30c/kg dearer, while an excellent run of heavy grown heifers lifted by 25c/kg. Heavy grown steers & bullocks were 10c to 20c/kg dearer & heavy bulls improved by 25c. A limited number of feeder steers & heifers sold to dearer trends while weaner steers & heifers were 5c to 10c/kg dearer.
