Under an overcast sky, cattle numbers surged at this week’s sale with just over 8400 head of cattle penned.

This week’s larger yarding saw an increase of over 1600 head of cattle recorded on last week’s sale.

The regular buyers, feedlotters and backgrounders were present, competing for the yarding which hailed from near and far.

A large portion of cattle were drawn from the local Maranoa supply district including Amby, Injune, Mitchell, Muckadilla, Roma and Wallumbilla.

The yarding also included consignments from Taroom and Dulacca, as well as from the western regions of Charleville, Isisford, Longreach and Tambo, and from further south, from Condoblin in New South Wales.

Stephen David Dickson of ‘Waipiro’, Wallumbilla, sold a pen of Droughtmaster steers, selling to 510c/kg, for an average weight of 310kg to receive a return of $1,586/hd.

The line was consigned through Elders Roma.

AR, C & NJ Hamilton’s steers.

AR, C & NJ Hamilton offloaded a run of Brangus cross steers fetching 516c/kg, weighing in at 368kg to make $1,902/hd.

Operating out of ‘Beresford’, Taroom, one pen of Brangus cross steers sold for 510c/kg for an average weight of 382kg to make $1,948/hd.

Another pen of Brangus cross steers fetched 528c/kg, to weigh 348kg for a return of $1,843/hd.

The line was consigned through Grant, Daniel & Long Taroom.

Brah-Lim Cattle Co Pty Ltd’s steers.

Brah-Lim Cattle Co Pty Ltd of ‘Boondoon’, Charleville, offloaded a large run of steers selling to 524c/kg for an average weight of 291kg to receive a return of $1,527/hd.

One pen of Limousin cross steers made 558c/kg, weighing 282kg to make an average of $1,574/hd.

Another pen of Limousin cross steers fetched 592c/kg, to weigh 254kg and make $1,504/hd.

The line was consigned through Watkins and Company.

 

NLRS Commentary:

With not much change in the weather Roma Agents yarded 8475 head. Cattle drawn from the normal supply district as well as NSW. All the regular buyers attending and active on most slaughter cattle. The market erratic with quality runs of steers selling to stronger market quality related. Heifers sold to solid rate and cows losing 5 to 8c/kg on the better cows and light conditioned cows up to 15 to 20c/kg.

Yearling steers under 200kg sold from 300c to 472c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg selling from 390c to 592c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg sold to 580c to average 535c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg topping 554c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg to 514c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling steers over 480kg sold 462c/kg to processors.

Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg selling from 290c to 444c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg sold to 440c to average 440c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg topping 434c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg to 400c to Lot Feeders and 446c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers over 480kg to 442c/kg to processors.

Grown steers 400 to 500kg sold from 430c to 478c/kg to Lot Feeders. Grown steers 500 to 600kg made to 480c/kg to processors. Bullocks over 600kg to 466c/kg to processors.   Heifers over 540kg to 442c/kg to processors.

Approx 1650 cows penned. The 3 score prime cows over 520kg sold to 398/kg almost 10c/kg less than the previous sale. The 2 score cows 400 to 520kg sold from 240c to 360c/kg to processors. Bulls 450 to 600kg to 430c/kg to processors. Bulls over 600kg to 410c/kg to processors. Approx 400 cows & calves penned selling from $1220/unit to $2060/unit for the better lines.

A total of 8,475 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 472c/kg and averaged 422c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 592c/kg and averaged 529c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 580c/kg and averaged 519c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 558c/kg and averaged 499c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 510c/kg and averaged 468c/kg.

Brah-Lim Cattle Co Pty Ltd, Boondoon, Charleville sold Limousin cross steers to 592c/kg, reaching a top of $1,884 to average $1,527.

KC Chandler T/A Glentulloch Grazing, Glentulloch, Injune sold Simmental cross steers to 580c/kg, reaching a top of $2,016 to average $1,755.  The Simmental cross heifers sold to 474c/kg, reaching a top of $2,441 to average $1,288.

VM & K & AG Hafemeister, Oakleigh, Injune sold Angus cross steers to 564c/kg, reaching a top of $2,091 to average $1,446.

EJ & CF Rolfe, Nindinna, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 558c/kg, reaching a top of $1,897 to average $1,647.  The Charolais heifers sold to 440c/kg, reaching a top of $1,489 to average $1,349.

KS Fien, Crowman, Injune sold Simmental cross steers to 546c/kg, reaching a top of $1,911 to average $1,660.

Parklane Grazing, Parklane, Drillham sold Angus cross steers to 546c/kg, reaching a top of $1,878 to average $1,731.  The Angus cross heifers sold to 438c/kg, reaching a top of $1,421 to average $1,258.
