Despite the scattered storms, the yarding was up at this week’s sale, with over 7,000 head of cattle penned, an increase of 1,572 head of cattle recorded on last week’s sale.

The regular processors, feedlotters and backgrounders were in attendance competing for the mixed yarding.

The Roma Saleyards can once again be solidified as the marketplace of choice, with cattle being drawn from near and far.

The yarding saw cattle hail from the local supply district including Roma, Mitchell and Wallumbilla, as well the western regions of Longreach, Barcaldine, Augathella, Quilpie and Cunnamulla.

Cattle were also consigned from as far north as Julia Creek.

JP and RE Humphreys offloaded a run of Angus cross steers making 485c/kg for an average weight of 310kg and a return average of $1,506/hd.

Based out of ‘Calgary’, Roma, one pen of Angus cross steers sold for 496c/kg weighing an average of 293kg to make an average of $1,453/hd.

Also hailing from ‘Calgary’, Roma, D and E Humphreys sold two pens of Angus cross steers which fetched 481c/kg with an average weight of 320kg to return an average of $1,540/hd.

The heavier pen of Angus cross steers made 470c/kg for an average weight of 351kg to make an average of $1,649/hd.

All of these lines were consigned through Grant, Daniel and Long Roma.

Elders Mitchell Livestock Agent Dave Phillips with Campbell Pastoral Holdings Santa Gertrudis heifers.

Operating out of ‘Currawarra’, Mitchell, Campbell Pastoral Holdings offloaded a run of Santa Gertrudis heifers for 448c/kg weighing an average of 205kg, making a return average of $920/hd.

One pen of Santa Gertrudis heifers made 448c/kg weighing an average of 256kg for an average of $1,148/hd.

The line was consigned through Elders Roma, with Mitchell Livestock Agent Dave Phillips.

TopX Roma Principal Cyril Close with Dalco Pastoral Co Santa Gertrudis cross heifers.

Dalco Pastoral Co of ‘Sugarloaf’, Wallumbilla, offloaded four pens of Santa Gertrudis cross heifers, selling all to 450c/kg.

One pen of Santa Gertrudis cross heifers sold for 450c/kg for an average weight of 292kg and a return average of $1,314/hd.

A second pen sold for 450c/kg for an average weight of 238kg and an average of $1,070/hd.

The line was consigned through TopX Roma, with TopX Roma Principal Cyril Close.

 

NLRS Commentary:

With scattered storms Roma Agents yarded 7,495 head. The regular buyers attended and active. A mixed quality penned with runs of  steers, heifers and cows. The market improved as the sale progressed.

Yearling steers 200kg to 280kg selling from 380c to 530c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg made to 530c to average 476c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg sold from 310c to 500c to Lot Feeders and 520c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg also made to 520c to average 470c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling steers over 480kg to 460c/kg to restockers.

Yearling heifers under 200kg made to 448c/kg. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg also made to 448c/kg to average 396c/kg. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg topped 450c/kg. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg sold to 430c to average 396c/kg. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg made to 430c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling heifers over 480kg sold from 368c to 406c/kg.

Grown steers 400 to 500kg sold from 380c to 520c/kg to Lot Feeders. Grown steers 500 to 600kg topped 474c to average 426c/kg. Bullocks over 600kg sold 430c/kg to processors. Grown heifers over 540kg to 418c/kg.

Approx 1300 cows penned and improved almost 30c/kg for the scores 3 cows on the previous sale. The 2 score cows sold from 200c to 394c/kg for run of quality store cows. The 3 score cows topped 415c to average 395c/kg. Bulls up to 450kg made to 400c/kg. Bulls 450 to 600kg sold from 210c to 370c/kg. Bulls over 600kg to 430c/kg for Euro bull.

A total of 7495 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 520c/kg and averaged 387c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 530c/kg and averaged 469c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 530c/kg and averaged 490c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 520c/kg and averaged 466c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 520c/kg and averaged 457c/kg.

Glen Valley Pastoral Co, Glenvalley, Jundah sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 530c/kg, reaching a top of $1,658 to average $1,535.  The Santa Gertrudis cross cows sold to 415c/kg, reaching a top of $2,628 to average $2,262.

Stephen John Phillips, Strathvale, Ballaroo sold Simmental cross steers to 524c/kg, reaching a top of $1,596 to average $1,429.  The Droughtmaster cross heifers sold to 420c/kg, reaching a top of $1,583 to average $1,369.

RJ & VM Brawne, Yerura, Meandarra sold Angus steers to 520c/kg, reaching a top of $2,576 to average $1,633.

Brah-Lim Cattle Co Pty Ltd, Boondoon, Charleville sold Limousin cross steers to 500c/kg, reaching a top of $2,194 to average $1,522.  The Limousin cross heifers sold to 416c/kg, reaching a top of $1,689 to average $1,287.  The Brahman cross cows sold to 414c/kg, reaching a top of $2,276 to average $1,978.

JE  & JL Creevey, Lucknow Station, Augathella sold Charolais cross steers to 520c/kg, reaching a top of $1,680 to average $1,346.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 420c/kg, reaching a top of $1,280 to average $1,023.

D Elliott Investments, Mt Campbell, Winton sold Charbray cross steers to 508c/kg, reaching a top of $2,254 to average $1,719.

AJ & CJ Adams, Allo-Omber, Barcaldine sold Brahman cross steers to 502c/kg, reaching a top of $1,713 to average $1,461.  The Brahman cross heifers sold to 424c/kg, reaching a top of $1,665 to average $1,098.

Belfast Grazing Co, Belfast Station, Winton sold Brahman cross steers to 486c/kg, reaching a top of $2,396 to average $2,012.

Derek & Christie Goddard, Eucumbene, Mitchell sold Angus cross steers to 480c/kg, reaching a top of $1,805 to average $1,444.  The Angus cross heifers sold to 416c/kg, reaching a top of $1,262 to average $1,075.

CF & D Walsh, Ventwrah, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis steers to 478c/kg, reaching a top of $2,229 to average $2,152.  The Santa Gertrudis cross heifers sold to 425c/kg, reaching a top of $1,732 to average $1,633.

4M Cattle Company, Rockvale Station, Julia Creek sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 430c/kg, reaching a top of $2,479 to average $2,275.

 

Heifers under 200kg topped at 448c/kg and averaged 370c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 450c/kg and averaged 382c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 450c/kg, averaging 390c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 450c/kg, averaging 367c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 440c/kg, averaging 390c/kg.

Dalco Pastoral Co, Sugarloaf, Wallumbilla sold Angus cross heifers to 450c/kg, reaching a top of $1,620 to average $1,318.

BM & ND Bauer, Arlington, Augathella sold Simmental cross heifers to 448c/kg, reaching a top of $1,452 to average $1,304.

MJ & CJ McQueen, Weston, Winton sold Simmental cross heifers to 440c/kg, reaching a top of $1,991 to average $1,630.

 

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 330c/kg and averaged 269c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 409c/kg, averaging 372c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 414c/kg, averaging 386c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 415c/kg, averaging 396c/kg.

Glenn Wilson, Kaywarra, Injune sold Charolais cross cows to 415c/kg, reaching a top of $2,585 to average $2,449.
