Wagga sale 20 October 2025: Numbers dropped significantly

Yarding 4892  Change -1008

Numbers dropped significantly, in a very mixed offering. The yarding was predominately secondary types, with each agent having some well finished yearlings and heavy cattle. Prices did fluctuate over many classes, and it was evident that not all export companies were operating. Their absence did contribute to the downward pressure on prices. On the other hand, a larger group of restockers attended the sale, indicating  strong demand, particularly from the north and southern regions of Victoria. Feedlot demand was significantly weaker and buyers were not prepared to push prices once hitting a certain level.

The trade for steers and heifers followed a downward trend, with prices ranging from 380-510c/kg. Although feedlot competition remained solid, it was significantly lower than the previous week, with light and medium weights experiencing the most significant price corrections. Feeder steers weighing between 330-400kg ranged from 414-498c/kg, reflecting an 35c decline. Medium weight steers were well supplied, and prices lipped 19c, with the bulk selling between 448 and 480c/kg.

Feeder heifers saw prices become erratic at times, with the bulk fetching between 330-456c/kg. Notably, light weight heifers weighing 280-330kg attracted a larger pool of buyers, selling for 415-455c/kg. Meanwhile, light weight steers 200-280kg were keenly sought after, with prices ranging from 420 to 580c/kg.

In the heavy export categories, heavy steers and bullocks suitable for processors sold within the range of 400-470c/kg. Heavy heifers with shape sold 10-21c cheaper making from 400-485c/kg. Heavy cows experienced a slight easing in prices, ranging from 368-398c/kg. Cows weighing under 520kg also saw a decline of 6c, with prices falling between 308-372c/kg.
