Yarding 3290 Change -10

It was a similar sized yarding. Quality improved with some very good well finished stock coming out of the Riverina.
While there were was strong bidding across yearling steer categories however, they had to be very well bred.
Not all the usual buyers were present, with a major export processor absent.
There were not as many back ground orders this week, although restockers stepped up in a big way, with many orders in play across all light weight categories
There was a reduced field of feed lot buyers in the steer market that led to downward trend for the lighter weight portion. Feeder steers 330 to 400kg slipped 12c making from334 to 414c/kg. Medium weight feeder steers gained 8c selling from 330 to 415c/kg.
The majority of heavy steers 500 to 600kg were sold within the range of 340c to 414c/kg.
Feeder heifers met stronger feedlot competition, with prices improving 11c to 14c the bulk selling from 308c to 375c/kg.
Trade cattle remained limited however quality improved for some classes. Steers and heifers sold between 312c and 405c/kg.
Restockers showed keen interest across lightweight categories, with prices pushing up for quality types. Better-bred steers fetched prices ranging from 324c to 436c/kg to average $859/head.
In the export market, competition was once again patchy, from processors, the strongest competition came from lot feeders for both heavy steers and bullocks. Heavy steers and bullocks sold between 360c and 384/kg. Due to the stronger pressure being applied by feedlots processors shifted their attention to heavy heifers over 500kg. Prices lifted by as much as 24c to average 344c/kg. Heavy cows sold between 305c and 336c/kg. Middle run of leaner types made good gains selling from 265c to 318c/kg.
