SNOW has blanketed one of the country’s most productive cattle producing areas at the weekend with reports of between 15 and 40cm across large parts of New England.

The storms have mostly been novelty value, with many producers in the area taking to social media with photos and videos of their cattle in snow-covered paddocks.

The snow fell across a large area of the New England, with pictures emerging online of snow accumulating on the ground at Armidale, Walcha, Guyra and Glen Innes. There was some snow in Qld, however, it was not as thick.

Some roads were cut over the weekend causing disruptions to cattle movements, however, they are back open again to start the week. The University of England reported some branches and trees down as a result of the storms, which ultimately shut the campus today.

Most stud sales that are scheduled in the area this week are still going ahead with roads back open.

The snow was accompanied by significant rainfall further south where there was some concerns about flash flooding, however, that threat appears to have eased.
