Speeds expand with the Mt Harden Aggregation

The Rolleston-based Speed family has been named as the Queensland family who purchased AAM’s Mt Harden Aggregation (pictured above) in the state’s central west.

Owned and operated by John and Margaret Speed along with their family, the Redrock Cattle Co has breeding country in the Northern Territory (Tobermorey Station) and backgrounding and finishing country in Central Queensland including Redrock and Kullanda near Rolleston, Dourialla in the Arcadia Valley and Croydon Station in the Lotus Creek district, between Rockhampton and Mackay.

Located 72km from Blackall, the 34,004ha Mt Harden Aggregation spans three adjoining properties – Mt Harden, Lowana and Morundah – and has a strong breeding, backgrounding and finishing history, capable of running more than 6000 adult equivalents.

The country a mix of brigalow with lightly shaded open Mitchell grass downs, coolibah creek channels and almost 6000ha of developed gidgee country growing prolific stands of buffel grass.

Mt Harden is watered by a capped artesian bore, five sub bores and 26 dams.

Infrastructure includes two homes, workers accommodation, numerous sheds, two cattle yards and extensive new internal fencing.

Out of area producer secures New England’s Abberley

Thirty years of Coventry family ownership has ended following the sale of Abberley in northern New South Wales’ New England region.

The 1595ha of high rainfall grazing country is located 24km south of Walcha and when it failed to sell at auction, was offered with a $16.5 million price guide.

Ray White Rural agent Andrew Starr was unable to disclose the price paid or the buyer, however it is understood to be an out of area producer.

The Coventry family had been running a 750 to 800 cow self-replacing beef herd on the undulating country which is watered by a double frontage to the MacDonald River and Bald Creek, the Cobrabald River and numerous dams.

During the marketing campaign, Mr Starr said a significant portion of arable land was ideal for pasture development and fodder cropping.

Abberley’s infrastructure includes a three-bedroom cottage, a shed, a four-stand shearing shed, two sheep yards and two cattle yards.

High performance NSW grazing sells to a local

A local is expanding with high performance grazing country in the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales.

The 1895ha Sunnyridge is located near Frogmore, 35km from Boorowa, and was offered to the market for the second time in more than 100 years by Jane Campbell, after 30 years of ownership by the Campbell family.

Elders Emms Mooney agent Scott Catlin said the property sold after auction to a local for slightly above expectations.

Mr Catlin was unable to offer a price guide, however local land has been achieving upwards of $2500/ac.

Sunnyridge comprises three holdings – Sunnyridge, Alora and Ascanius – and supports Merino, White Suffolk and Border Leicester studs, with a conservative carrying capacity of 15,000DSE.

Under the Campbells’ ownership, the aggregation has been running 5000 Merino ewes, 2000 hoggets, 800 wethers, 200 rams and 123 cows and calves.

Pasture development has been ongoing since 1994 and over the past six years, 174ha have been improved with 48ha planted to winter grazing wheat.

It is watered by 10km of Hovells Creek frontage, 35 dams and two bores.

Infrastructure across the aggregation includes a six-bedroom home, two cottages, numerous sheds, two shearing sheds, three sheep yards, steel cattle yards, more than 400-tonnes of grain storage and 7km of new fencing.
