NLRS Commentary:

The deteriorating weather saw Roma Agents yarded 8707 head yesterday. Cattle were drawn from NSW, Western QLD and the NT. All the regular buyers attending and operating selectively. The market patchy in the beginning then stabilised as the sale progressed.

Yearling steers under 200kg to 482c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg sold from 354c to 512c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg made to 518c to average 465c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg selling from 320c to 516c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg made to 460c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers over 480kg to 410c to processors and 488c/kg to Lot Feeders.

Yearling heifers under 200kg topping 332c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg sold from 250c to 366c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg made to 370c to lot Feeders and 394c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg selling from 328c to 356c/kg to Lot feeders. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg made to 334c to processors and 400c/kg to Lot feeders.

Grown steers 400 to 500kg to 516c/kg to lot feeders. Grown steers 500 to 600kg to 444c/kg to Lot feeders. Bullocks over 600kg to 404c/kg to processors. Grown heifers over 540kg to 380c/kg to processors.

The cow numbers increased to almost 1,800 head which included a large offering of score 1 and 2 cows back to the paddock. The 3 score cows over 520kg topped 335c to average 316c/kg to processors. The 2 score cows 400 to 520kg made from 240 to 255c/kg and the score 1 cows from 110c to 178c/kg. Bulls over 600kg to 394c/kg.

Highlights

This week’s Tuesday cattle sale had packed laneways and a large yarding with cattle drawn from many areas across Australia.

As the sun shone down over the Roma Saleyards, the regular buyers, lotfeeders and backgrounders competed for the cattle on offer, with an increase of more than 2,000 head consigned in comparison to last week.

With the yarding being supplied from near and far, consignments travelled from as close as Hodgson, Injune, Jackson, Roma, Wallumbilla and Yuleba in the Maranoa supply district, to as far as Alice Springs in the Northern Territory and Goodooga in New South Wales.

The yarding also hailed from the western and northern regions of Queensland including Alpha, Augathella, Barcaldine, Quilpie, Thargomindah, Wyandra, Windorah and Richmond.

Further throughout the Sunshine State, cattle came from Bollon, Dirranbandi and St George in the Balonne Shire and from Bogandilla, Dulacca, Miles and Wandoan in the Western Downs region.

FD & JK Seawright of ‘Glenray’, Yuleba, offloaded Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 473c/kg, weighing in at 349kg and receiving a return of $1,652/hd.

One pen of Santa Gertrudis cross steers fetched 456c/kg to average 407kg and make $1,858/hd.

Another pen of steers sold to 480c/kg to weigh 368kg and receive $1,769/hd.

The line was consigned through Elders Roma.

FL & MR Miller’s steers.

FL & MR Miller, based out of ‘North Kooringa’, Roma, sold a large run of steers, with three pens of Angus steers selling to 510c/kg.

The heaviest of the three pens weighed in at 321kg and returned $1,638/hd.

Another pen of Angus steers fetched 518c/kg, averaging 385kg and receiving $1,996/hd.

Brett Griffin of ‘Glen Olive’, Injune, offloaded three pens of Shorthorn cross steers and altogether they averaged 472c/kg, to weigh 267kg and make $1,264/hd.

One pen of the Shorthorn cross steers made 496c/kg, averaging 264kg and receiving $1,313/hd.

The line was consigned through Grant Daniel and Long Roma.

S1E Livestock of Bogandilla sold a pen of Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 512c/kg, weighing in at 230kg and receiving a return of $1,182/hd.

Grant Daniel and Long St George livestock agent Anthony Hyland with LFJ Price’s steers.

LFJ Price offloaded Braford cross steers at this week’s sale, selling to 467c/kg, averaging 241kg and making $1,129/hd.

Operating out of ‘Eurobodalla’, St George, one pen of steers sold to 486c/kg, weighing in at 257kg and returning $1,252/hd.

Another pen of steers fetched 450c/kg, to average 229kg and make $1,033/hd.

A total of 8707 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 482c/kg and averaged 443c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 512c/kg and averaged 444c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 518c/kg and averaged 467c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 518c/kg and averaged 456c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 516c/kg and averaged 435c/kg.

Bondstock Pty Ltd, Maloneys, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 518c/kg, reaching a top of $1,636 to average $1,435.

JT & LK Postle, Doboy, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 518c/kg, reaching a top of $1,478 to average $1,433.

FL & MR Miller, North Kooringa, Roma sold Angus steers to 518c/kg, reaching a top of $1,996 to average $1,660.

Bangor Cattle Co Pty Ltd, Bangor, Mungallala sold Charolais steers to 500c/kg, reaching a top of $1,431 to average $1,188.

Brenda Station, Goodooga sold Angus cross steers to 496c/kg, reaching a top of $1,673 to average $1,341.

MRB Contracting, Mossview Lodge, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 492c/kg, reaching a top of $1,444 to average $1,444.  The Angus cross heifers sold to 342c/kg, reaching a top of $1,052 to average $1,052.

John & Meryl McNulty, Mostyn, Yuleba sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 492c/kg, reaching a top of $1,701 to average $1,406.

MA & CR Packer, Trenspy, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 488c/kg, reaching a top of $1,726 to average $1,637.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 370c/kg, reaching a top of $1,155 to average $1,062.

Camelot Grazing Co, Camelot, Yuleba sold Angus cross steers to 478c/kg, reaching a top of $1,487 to average $1,363.  The Angus cross heifers sold to 344c/kg, reaching a top of $871 to average $782.

Redman Pastoral Company, Wattamolla, Mitchell sold Angus steers to 474c/kg, reaching a top of $1,785 to average $1,653.  The Angus heifers sold to 400c/kg, reaching a top of $1,596 to average $1,423.

BR & KM Seawright, Janlee, Yuleba sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 474c/kg, reaching a top of $1,534 to average $1,509.  The Santa Gertrudis cross heifers sold to 320c/kg, reaching a top of $934 to average $934.

Torres Park Grazing, Cherry Hills, Injune, sold Santa Gertrudis steers to 408c/kg, reaching a top of $2,377 to average $2,377.

 

Heifers under 200kg topped at 332c/kg and averaged 287c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 370c/kg and averaged 320c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 394c/kg, averaging 325c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 404c/kg, averaging 328c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 400c/kg, averaging 326c/kg.

Whyenbah Development, Whyenbah, St George sold Santa Gertrudis cross heifers to 386c/kg, reaching a top of $1,330 to average $1,144.

LR & SE Laycock, Cedars, Injune sold Charolais cross heifers to 372c/kg, reaching a top of $1,241 to average $1,120.

DR & BA Maxwell, Pinkilla, Quilpie sold Santa Gertrudis cross heifers to 354c/kg, reaching a top of $1,191 to average $1,107.

 

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 280c/kg and averaged 140c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 325c/kg, averaging 230c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 335c/kg, averaging 296c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 335c/kg, averaging 318c/kg.
