NLRS Commentary:

Numbers fell to 3900 head of cattle for the weekly Roma store sale with most cattle drawn from south west Queensland and northern NSW. While quality was mixed for light weight restocker steers, which included a large portion of light weight bulls, prices remained firm with demand from north west and western Queensland. Local restockers were still active on steers 280 to 400kg and heavy feeders steers held firm to slightly easier on previous weeks. There was noticeable absence of southern exporters this week and prime cattle lost ground across most categories.

Light weight restocker steers 200 to 280kg sold to 546.2c to average 510c, steers 280 to 330kg made to 542.2c averaging 488.2c and steers 330 to 400kg returning to the paddock topped at 524.2c with most around 484c/kg. Medium weight steers under 400kg to feed sold to 494.2c averaging 472c while those over 400kg held firm selling to 488.2c to average 460c/kg.

Quality played a major role for heifers under 330kg with ‘C’ muscle pens still holding firm selling to 406.2c to average 380c while ’D’ muscle pens averaged 270c/kg. Heifers 280 to 330kg made to  406.2 averaging 373c and restocker heifers 330 to 400kg also made to 406.2 with most around 370c/kg.

Feeder operators paid up to 386.2c for heifers over 400kg to average 361c/kg.

A limited number of heavy grown steers sold to 436.2c to average 392c and prime grown heifers over 540kg made to 387.2c to average 342c/kg. Best of the restocker store cows sold to 315.2c, medium weight cows to the processor topped at 331c and averaged 308c/kg. 3 score cows over 520kg sold to 334c while the best of the heavy 4 score cows reached 345.2c average 337c/kg. Heavy bulls sold to 395.2c and cows and calves made to $2075/unit.
