AN INDUSTRY OF RESILIENCE

LIVESTOCK producers across the globe are continually faced with decisions that affect herd performance and, ultimately, profitability. More often than not, those decisions are guided by decades of learned knowledge and experience passed down through generations. It is an industry built on heritage and resilience, shaped by long-term thinking and a responsibility to care not only for livestock, but for families and future generations.

For the past decade, CERES TAG has worked alongside producers in that same pursuit, not looking to replace traditional knowledge, but to strengthen it. Over the last five years, the company has delivered five generations of livestock monitoring technology, refined through research, development and on-farm use. The latest release of CERES GEN6 marks another step in that progression, offering producers deeper insight and greater control over herd management.

What was once the challenge of how to accurately measure and understand cattle performance has evolved into the ability to act on reliable, real-time intelligence. Data that was previously unavailable or difficult to capture can now be used to support everyday management decisions with greater confidence.

CERES GEN6 IN THE FIELD

CERES GEN6 launched at CattleCon 2026 in Nashville, Tennessee, where producers responded with strong interest in the system’s enhanced insight and control.

Building on this momentum, CERES TAG will showcase CERES GEN6 at The Northern Beef Research Update Conference in Brisbane and present and exhibit at the Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association conference in Darwin, giving Australian producers the chance to see the technology firsthand and explore its impact on extensive grazing operations.

CERES GEN6, THE PRODUCERS ADVANTAGE

As an animal health intelligence platform, CERES TAG focuses on capturing herd phenotype data to support improved decision-making around productivity and profitability. Continuous monitoring of animal health, behaviour and location provides producers with a clearer picture of what is happening across their herd, often before issues become visible on the ground. The introduction of CERES GEN6 extends this capability further, particularly in the area of reproduction, where timing, accuracy and early intervention can have a significant impact on outcomes.

Reproductive performance remains one of the most critical drivers of profitability in beef production. CERES GEN6 introduces an advanced suite of reproduction algorithms designed to help producers better understand breeding activity, identify cycling animals earlier, and reduce reliance on visual observation alone. When combined with existing insights around pasture feed intake, behaviour and GPS location, the system allows producers to make more informed decisions across the breeding and calving cycle.

The device also reflects the practical demands of extensive grazing systems. As a fully IP68-rated (100% waterproof), direct-to-satellite device, it is designed to operate reliably in remote and harsh environments, reducing the need for additional infrastructure while maintaining consistent data flow.

From an operational perspective, the technology is aimed at reducing risk and improving efficiency. Automated oestrus detection and cycle tracking can assist with synchronisation and breeding confirmation, while calving alerts with location data help producers respond more quickly during high-risk periods. Insights into mounting behaviour also provide a clearer picture of bull performance and overall herd breeding activity.

CEO and Founder David Smith comments on the new CERES GEN6 device stating, “simply knowing these facts about reproduction and efficiency of the animals, means we can actually start to optimise the profitability of producers, and that makes us very excited about being able to provide that value for the producers, but it also feeds into the genetic performance of the animals. Those sorts of phenotypes enable us to choose which animals are going to produce the highest outputs and returns for the producers.”

THE FUTURE

As supply chains place increasing emphasis on efficiency, sustainability and traceability, tools that support better use of resources and more predictable outcomes are becoming increasingly important. Technologies that deliver practical, actionable insight, rather than raw data alone, are likely to play a growing role in how producers manage risk and plan for the future. The new CERES GEN6 devices not only allows for better productivity and profitability today, but also better genetics and better reproductive cycles next year, and the year after and beyond.

By supporting informed decision-making at the paddock level, livestock intelligence platforms such as CERES TAG are contributing to stronger individual operations and helping the broader industry adapt to the demands of a changing production environment.
